The Complete Seasonal Pond Care Calendar
A simple month-by-month rhythm for a healthy pond, what to do in spring, summer, fall and winter to stay ahead of problems.

The easiest ponds to own are the ones cared for on a rhythm. A little attention at the right times of year keeps you ahead of algae, weeds and muck, instead of reacting once the water has already turned.
Spring: get ahead of the season
As the water warms past about 10°C, start your first conditioner application and get aeration running. Treating early, before nutrients fuel the first bloom, sets the tone for the whole season.
Summer: maintain the momentum
Warm water and long days drive the most growth. Keep up regular conditioning, run aeration consistently, and rake out any surface weeds so they don’t die back and add to the muck.
Fall: prepare for winter
Remove leaves and dying vegetation before they sink. Switch to a fall/winter formula built to keep beneficial bacteria working in colder water, and plan your winter aeration.
Winter: protect the ecosystem
Where ice forms, aeration keeps a hole open so gases can escape and oxygen stays available, helping prevent winter fish kill.
- Spring: start conditioning + aeration early.
- Summer: stay consistent; remove weeds.
- Fall: clear debris; switch to the cold-water formula.
- Winter: keep the water aerated.
